“To renew our country, we need to renew our democracy. There is a growing recognition that we can’t tackle climate breakdown or reduce inequality with a democracy that isn’t fit for purpose.

Overall, 56 Labour MPs voted in favour of a ceasefire.

Calls have been increasing for a ceasefire, with the United Nations’ secretary general calling for an immediate ceasefire to end “epic suffering” in the Gaza Strip.
