Keir Starmer remains resilient and there will be no timetable for his departure, Deputy Prime Minister David Lammy has said.
Appearing on Sky News, Lammy was asked by presenter Sophie Ridge if there was a chance the Prime Minister could set out a timetable for his departure.
He replied: “Keir Starmer remains the most resilient person I know in my life…he has a strength of character…there will be no timetables, what there is, is getting on with the business of government, really crystal clear about that, at the moment there is no contest what there is, is his determination to deliver for the British people.”
Asked again if there would be a timetable for departure, Lammy replied: “There will be no timetable for departure.”
It comes after close to 100 Labour MPs have called on Keir Starmer to go or set out a timetable for his departure after a disappointing set of local election results.
Wes Streeting has also resigned from the government, saying he had lost confidence in the Prime Minister.
Amid a tumultuous few days in Westminster, the Prime Minister has insisted that he is going nowhere and is focused on delivering for the country.
