FOURTH government minister resigns and calls on Starmer to quit
Pressure is mounting on Starmer as the number of resignations continues to grow
A fourth minister has resigned from Keir Starmer’s government and called on the prime minister to resign.
Zubir Ahmed – a junior health minister – has resigned from the government.
In his resignation statement, Ahmed said: “It is with a heavy heart that I have resigned as the government’s health innovation and safety minister.
“It has been the honour of my life to bring my twenty years of frontline experience as an NHS surgeon to government.”
The statement goes on to conclude: “Our work is urgent. I now ask the Prime Minister, for the sake of urgency and that national duty, to step aside and set a timetable for an expedient and orderly transition to new leadership.”
Ahmed’s resignation follows that of Miatta Fahnbulleh, Jess Phillips and Alex Davies-Jones. earlier today (May 12).
At the time of writing, 91 MPs Labour MPs have now called for Starmer to go.
However, more than 100 Labour MPs have signed a letter backing Starmer and opposing a leadership contest.
Starmer, meanwhile, has remained committed to staying in post and defied calls to resign.
