A third minister has resigned from Keir Starmer’s government following catastrophic local election results for the Labour Party.

Alex Davies-Jones, the minister for victims and tackling violence against women and girls tendered her resignation this afternoon (12 May).

In her resignation letter to the prime minister, Davies-Jones said: “I have been proud to deliver some monumental changes which will help save lives and shift the dial on the conversation.

“However, we have needed to do more and therefore it is with a very heavy heart that I feel I have no choice but to resign.”

Elsewhere in her letter, Davies-Jones said “I know you to be a good an honest man”, but concluded “I implore you to act in the country’s interest and set out a timetable for your departure.”

Davies-Jones resignation follows that of Miatta Fahnbulleh and Jess Phillips.

At the time of writing, Starmer has continued to reiterate that he intends to remain as prime minister and Labour leader.
