UKIP MEP thrown out of European Parliament for Nazi slur

United Kingdom Independence Party MEP Godfrey Bloom has unleashed yet another stream of coarse, xenophobic abuse - this time in the European Parliament. Whilst listening to a speech by German Social Democrat MEP Martin Schulz, Bloom shouted “Ein volk, ein reich, ein fuhrer” – one people, one empire, one leader. Bloom was ordered to leave the chamber and went on to describe Mr Schultz as “a national socialist”.

United Kingdom Independence Party MEP Godfrey Bloom has unleashed yet another stream of coarse, xenophobic abuse – this time in the European Parliament.

The speech Bloom interrupted was regarding a discussion of the Irish Republic’s economic crisis and resulted in the president of the European Union Jerzy Buzek asking Bloom to “leave the chamber at this point”. Bloom may face disciplinary action as a result of his words.

No stranger to controversy, Bloom has previously made a number of incendiary remarks. As well as being a climate change denier who previously claimed:

“As far as I am concerned man-made global warming is nothing more than a hypothesis that hasn’t got any basis in fact.”

He also praised the sinking of the Greenpeace ship ‘Rainbow Warrior’ in 1985, despite the fact that one man died as a result.

Bloom’s other high-profile, unsavoury remarks date back to 2004 when he argued no “self-respecting” small business owner would employ women of child bearing age. He went on to explain:

“I am here to represent Yorkshire women who always have dinner on the table when you get home. I am going to promote men’s rights.”

Tomorrow Bloom’s leader Nigel Farage will be appearing on Question Time, alongside Ken Clarke and Paddy Ashdown; the big question is: will he agree with Bloom’s rhetoric or not?

Agrree with janie_s: like Bloom or not (and he is not my cup of tea), his remarks are not nazi as such but criticise the way the EU is heading.
Note that many les extreme observers have been noticing the increased dominance of Germany (which I don’t say is wrong on all issues) over the EU, especially since the Greek question.
Progressives would be more inspired to throw their europhilia away.

I don’t think that Bloom should just be kicked out of the EU chamber for what he said. He should now be expelled from the EU Parliament in disgrace. Left Foot Forward are very polite in describing Bloom as Xenophobic (compulsive fear of strangers). I think that those who vocalise Nazi slogans are Nazi themselves. Highly vocalised errant hatred of people who are women, and also the German people is not appropriate behaviour of European Parliamentarians, and should not be tolerated. Most German people are horrified by the Third Reich, and seek a new Germany from the rubble and bereavement of that period. A woman boss of mine was once illegally sacked for being pregnant (during the miserable MAJOR years). Out with Nazi Masochist Bloom, please: to whom it concerns. I have emailed my comment, with your web-link and article to the BBC. They may act, and cover the story too. Thanks. Great Articles
