Nigel Farage humiliated after his US election prediction was proved completely wrong

He predicted a 'big surprise'

Nigel Farage would be ill-advised to start a new career as a fortune teller after he was left with egg on his face over his prediction for the US midterms.

Appearing on his GB News show on the night of the elections, the Reform UK leader talked up the chances of his pal Donald Trump having a good night in elections to the US Senate and House of Representatives.

In advance of the elections, Farage said: “I don’t go with that consensus that Trump’s going to get absolutely smashed – here’s why.

“Number one: actually, political science, get out the vote campaign, data – I think this Republican Party is way better than it was ten years ago when Trump first became president, and Elon Musk hasn’t chucked him $450 million of his own money just for fun, he’s helping them working on that. So I do believe the Republicans are very well organised.

“Yes of course, the Iran war, the cost of diesel and gas, all those things are not good. But look at the opponents. Who is the leader of the Democrats? Who’s it been for many, many years? Because Biden was hardly there, Harris was only there for a few months, you’ve got a new hard-left coming in.

“I think for all those reasons, we’re in for a big surprise tonight”.

In a sense, Farage was right. There was a big surprise. The surprise was that the Republicans faced an even bigger defeat than polls had suggested. They didn’t just lose control of both the Senate and the House of Representatives to the Democrats. They even lost Senate seats in their Southern strongholds of Texas and Kansas.

Maybe the results from these elections will help Nigel see the future a little better. From Brazil to Serbia to the USA – people are turning against the extreme right politics across the world. With Reform tanking in the polls, it looks like that might round the corner in the UK too.
