Nigel Farage may find some more time for his constituency duties after it was revealed that his column with the Telegraph has been axed.
The Reform UK leader contributed columns to the paper and although he did not have a monthly agreement, he was paid around £4000 a month, according to the MPs register of financial interests.
He wrote for the paper as recently as last week, criticising the first budget of Andy Burnham’s premiership.
The Guardian cites sources as saying that the paper’s new German owner, has decided not to renew Farage’s contract.
However, Reform have disputed this with sources close to Farage saying that the Reform leader submitted his resignation on Friday, as he did not like the direction that the Telegraph was moving in.
Staff were also concerned about Reform’s relationship with the paper.
The Guardian reports: “There was unease among some staff about Reform’s repeated use of the Telegraph for “spoiler” stories: a media tactic designed to pre-empt a problematic story by placing a more sympathetic version with a rival title.
“Some insiders also disapproved of a piece about a journalist travelling to Britain on a small boat. It later emerged the journalist in question was a Reform member and activist.”
