While Reform UK continues to make the headlines for all the wrong reasons on a national level, it’s local councils are also embroiled in turmoil, plagued by broken promises, a failure to deliver and bitter infighting.
Now it’s been revealed that one of the party’s flagship councils, Leicestereshire County Council,has experienced a 1,200 per cent increase in councillor complaints – from just eight between May 2024 to April 2025 – before going up to 104 complaints from May 2025 to April 27, 2026.
The Melton Times reports: “According to a Freedom of Information (FOI) request, most complaints were in the single digits between May 2021 and April 2025, before rising sharply shortly after the Reform minority administration took over.”
The majority of complaints were made against Reform councillors, with 97 complaints filed against them between May 2025 and April 2026.
Complaints from members of the public made up the majority of complaints against Reform councillors (51), while 32 were made by County Council staff.
Officers at Leicestershire County Council have expressed concern that the sheer number of complaints have placed a heavy strain on the authority’s resources.
