While America may have marked 250 years of independence on July 4th, a poll has found that an overwhelming majority of Britons now hold a negative view of its president, Donald Trump.
The poll, carried out by YouGov, found that 83% of the British public have a negative opinion of Donald Trump, and 60% now say the same about the USA itself.
Under Biden, the average number of Britons with a negative view of the US had been 39% (and indeed it had been 38% during Trump’s first term).
Trump has taken a much more authoritarian and volatile approach to domestic and foreign policy issues in his second term and relations between the US and Britian have become strained.
The Republican has imposed sweeping trade tariffs on allies, criticised the contribution of British soldiers during the conflict in Afghanistan and tried to drag the UK into a conflict with Iran.
