Reform has once more become embroiled in a sexism and misogyny scandal after one of the party’s councillors was found to have said that ‘washing clothes is a woman’s job’.

Anti-extremist campaign group Hope not Hate has found that newly-elected South Tyneside councillor, Alex Clarke, made sexist comments on a podcast that he runs under his own name.

On Clarke Out Loud, the name of his show, Clarke promises to “deliver unfiltered, controversial opinions that absolutely no one has asked for”.

Among his opinions are “washing clothes is a woman’s job” and “it’s scientifically proven that men are better drivers than women”.

Clarke said: “When you’re going down a road and [a driver] is trying to parallel park a tiny little car in a big fuck-off space, you don’t even have to see who’s driving it. It’s a woman.”

Clarke denies that he is sexist or misogynist, telling Hope not Hate that ‘there are things in this world called jokes!’ We can’t see the funny side.

It comes after Reform’s candidate in the Makerfield by-election Robert Kenyon was also found to have made a number of sexist comments.

Kenyon previously claimed that women “can’t drive” and that they get abortions for “vanity purposes”.

He also claimed that women primarily rely on abortions so they can “shag anyone they want”.

So much for Reform’s vetting of candidates.
