Reform’s Home Affairs spokesperson Zia Yusuf has been condemned for ‘opportunistic race baiting’ after he implied there was discrimination against white people because Black men, who are at greater risk of prostate cancer, were being offered targeted screening.
Sharing news of a government announcement that all Black men aged between 45 and 74 will be offered prostate cancer screening, Yusuf wrote on X: “On the day the whole political establishment claims we do not live in a two tier country, they announce this.
“Note, the NHS makes NO drugs available exclusively to white people.”
Many had to point out to Yusuf that Black men are at significantly higher risk of prostate cancer.
Labour MP Luke Charters replied: “What is wrong with you?
“Black men are at significantly higher risk of prostate cancer. This isn’t “two-tier Britain”. It’s basic medicine.
“The programme will save lives and the NHS money. That’s great news.
“Stop rage-farming and log off for a day. It might do you some good.”
Labour MP Dr Zubir Ahmed added: “How can someone as thick as you aspire to hold any form of public office? Please go and ask your father how medical screening works, it’s time you were educated.”
Journalist and commentator Owen Jones added: “My white dad died of prostate cancer.
“1 in 4 Black men will get prostate cancer.
“That’s twice the rate of white people.
“This policy will save lives – and mean more NHS resources for others.
“This opportunistic race baiting is disgusting.”
