A poll of Labour Party members has found that the Mayor of Greater Manchester, Andy Burnham, would defeat all of the leadership hopefuls he’d be up against in any potential race.

It comes after a tumultuous week for the Labour Party, with close to 100 Labour MPs calling on Keir Starmer to go or set out a timetable for his departure. However the Prime Minister has insisted he is going nowhere and is focused on delivering for the country.

Josh Simons has resigned as an MP for Makerfield so that Andy Burnham can contest the seat with a view to returning to Parliament. The Mayor of Greater Manchester has also made clear he thinks it’s time to take the party in a different direction.

While Burnham and Wes Streeting spent the weekend setting out their vision for the future of the party, YouGov has asked Labour Party members who they would vote for in a head-to-head between Burnham and other Labour MPs rumoured to be interested in the leadership.

Here’s how Burnham would perform in a head-to-head against others, including Keir Starmer.

Burnham 59% v Starmer 37%

Burnham 69% v Rayner 27%

Burnham 75% v Miliband 21%

Burnham 80% v Streeting 10%
