If a leadership contest occurred between Keir Starmer and Wes Streeting, then Starmer would defeat Streeting, a poll of party members has found.
The poll, reported by LabourList and conducted by Survation, revealed that Streeting would secure just 23 percent of support among Labour members, compared to 53 percent for Starmer.
LabourList reports: “Support for Starmer in such a head-to-head has reached a new high, with Starmer holding a 34-point lead over Streeting, compared with a virtual dead heat in November last year.”
The same poll of 1,124 party members also found that Starmer would win a head-to-head contest against Al Carns, Darren Jones, Bridget Phillipson, Louise Haigh, Yvette Cooper, Shabana Mahmood and Lucy Powell.
However, in a head-to-head with Andy Burnham, the Mayor of Greater Manchester secures 61% of support compared to Starmer’s 28%.
