Prime Minister Theresa May has said a second referendum on Scottish independence would ‘make it more difficult’ to secure a good post-Brexit settlement with the EU, adding: ‘Now is not the time.’
In a televised interview, the PM added:
“I think it wouldn’t be fair to the people of Scotland because they’d be being asked to make a crucial decision without the necessary information – without knowing what the future partnership would be or what the alternative of an independent Scotland would look like.”
Hmm… remind you of anything?

Whether you voted Stay or Leave the fundamental truth still prevails, the British people were invited to choose without any indication of the factual consequences of con or pro. The partisan “facts” pronounced were either undeclared guesswork or outright lies.

As a left-wing Scot, it pains me to agree with something that Theresa May has said but she is right to resist Nicola Sturgeon, Angus Robertson and the SNP. For many years the SNP has had one single goal: Scottish independence. The last Scottish referendum was a great disappointment with a common agreement that this was once in a generation. Brexit has changed that, entirely understandably. We’ve just had an EU referendum which produced a result consequent on an extraordinary confection of lies and implausible projections on both sides. We know what a referendum is like when the issues are so far from clear. The last Scottish referendum was substantially affected by estimates of the future economic prospects of Scotland. These calculations could be made and exposed for what was good and bad in the projections. As it turned out, the Scots were very fortunate that they did not vote for independence because the collapse in the oil price would have been devastating for them. The Brexit negotiations are so undeveloped that there would be even greater uncertainty about the economic future of Scotland in or out were there to be a second independence referendum now. Nicola Sturgeon realises that holding a referendum now where we have the greatest possible uncertainty about the future of the UK or indeed of Scotland would allow the SNP to generate as much fake news as we had seen in the EU referendum and probably very much more. The Scots deserve to be protected from a single minded SNP that will go headlong for Scottish independence and to hell with the consequences. It is the worst kind of political opportunism and must be resisted very strongly.

Scottish Labour policy “…better decades of Tory rule than self determination”
Do they ever pause to think that the rise in SNP membership reflects the fall in Labour Party membership. If they were left of centre a decade ago they are likely left of centre now.
Once again – the Labour Party left us !
Therefore attacks on the SNP membership are an attack on people who share your values EXCEPT the acceptance of Tory rule to keep middle England happy.
