Poll: Should Britain take in more refugees?

Have your say

The pictures of Aylan Kurdi, the three-year-old Syrian boy found washed up on a beach in Antalya, Turkey, appear to have (finally) brought it home to the British commentariat that more must be done to help those refugees currently fleeing from war and dictatorship.

As such, David Cameron is coming under increasing pressure to let in more refugees. Up to now the prime minister has responded that Britain is doing a great deal to help refugees – but by spending money on aid to be sent to the areas where people are fleeing in the first place.

But are the prime minister’s critics right – should Britain take in more refugees? Or is Britain, as the PM likes to point out, already doing its bit?

Have your say – the results of the poll will be published early next week.

Then why do they drown or sit shivering around Calais?

Time for Cameron to step down and let Farage take over! Wished more voters voted at least for Farage . As Liberty GB said : David Cameron is showing weakness, not compassion.

Letting more people in Europe will not be the resolution for anyone as one needs to look at the root of the problem which are the torn up countries & if you join each country ( which is wealthy enough to
invest ), everything could be restored again in a matter of only few years. As for Isis, quite convinced that this could problem be resolved quickly but no one is really taking action, they still are a minority. It’s strange that the majority of the governments are going along with it without finding other alternatives which makes me think that this could maybe have been planned.

Why are the refugees picking where they want to go, usually is the first country one reaches.

Didn’t the UK opt out of the free movement scheme for Europe? The rest of them are now panicking because they now realise just what they’ve let themselves in for. The UK have more than enough ‘minority’ nationalities already and people need to remember that this is an Island which is filling up fast. As tragic as it is, and it really is, Europe is more than big enough to cope; failing that they need to close the borders again so that people will stop making this ridiculously dangerous journey. War is terrible and it’s clearly affecting a lot of people but we have enough already, I live in Manchester and believe me we have a massive number here. John Ingamells you clearly have a lot to say on this issue but your’e wrong about Cameron, he’s being practical, it has nothing to do with humanity. It’s all well and good spouting off from the safety of a keyboard and giving ‘good’ advice on what we should be doing or telling people their opinions are wrong but the reality of having thousands of immigrants invading where you live isn’t pretty. Like it or not crime rates go up, rapes and petty crimes increase and everything becomes chaotic. The stats don’t tell you the true picture because not everything is reported. In an ideal world we could help these people and everything would be rosy and we would all get along great but the reality is different, doctors cant cope, schools are overrun so it’s very difficult to get our own kids into the schools we want. We have to look to ourselves first and then help others if we can, we let everyone in this country and you will soon regret it.
