Certain races ‘unsuited for life in a modern society’ – the shocking truth about new Tory Euro allies

An opinion poll of True Finn voters revealed that 51 per cent agreed with the statement: “People of certain races are unsuited for life in a modern society”.

Tory MEPs have admitted the far-right Danish People’s Party and True Finns to the European Conservatives and Reformists group [ECR], established by David Cameron in 2009.

As well as giving the Tories some new unsavoury allies, the move means that two right-wing politicians with criminal convictions will now be joining David Cameron’s eurosceptic alliance in the European Parliament.

As the FT reports (£):

“Morten Messerschmidt, a senior DPP figure and a rising star in Danish politics, was convicted in 2002 for publishing material that appeared to link a multiethnic society to rape, violence and forced marriages.

“Jussi Halla-aho, a newly elected True Finn MEP, was convicted in 2012 of stirring ethnic tensions after writing a blog on freedom of speech that claimed Islam ‘reveres paedophilia’.”

The decision will give the ECR 55 seats, making it the fourth largest group in the Parliament.

But perhaps more worrying is the nature of the Tories’ new allies. In December 2011, an opinion poll of True Finn voters revealed that 51 per cent agreed with the statement: “People of certain races are unsuited for life in a modern society”. (You can read it for yourself here, but you’ll need Google Translate. It’s the final paragraph).

As Left Foot Forward has previously reported, True Finns also have a rather disturbing manifesto:

“True Finns do not accept same-sex marriage ceremony, because marriage is intended to (be) between man and woman… The right to adoption do not give the same sex couples. True Finns have not accepted either of infertility adoption for single women or female couples…”

Last year True Finns were forced to expel a member who photographed a friend giving a Nazi salute inside the Finnish parliament.

As for the Danish People’s Party, it has been agitating for Denmark to adopt some of Europe’s most draconian immigration and integration regulations.

Tory modernisation appears only to extend to the white cliffs of Dover.

It’s good to draw attention to this sort of thing, but point scoring of this kind is easy. The Labour Party’s members in the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe sit in the Socialist Group, which includes Russia’s fascist Liberal Democratic Party, headed by the overtly racist and anti-Semitic Vladimir Zhirinovsky, Bosnia-Herzegovina’s Alliance of Independent Social Democrats which engages in genocide denial, and Slobodan Milosevic’s Socialist Party of Serbia.

I mention this not by way of whataboutery. Geopolitical alliances are not equivalent to domestic political alliances, in which there can be no excuse for allying with bigots or fascists. The UK shares membership of the EU with states, like Latvia, Italy and Poland, that tolerate fascism and bigotry to an extent that would be unacceptable in the UK. A British party sitting in the European Parliament or the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe, that does not wish wholly to isolate itself, has little choice but to join blocs that include some highly unsavory members.

The “shocking” truth is that the 51 per cent of the True Finn voters who agreed with the statement are expressing sound judgment:

Actually, I’d suggest that you’re wrong and we should condemn Labour for it. The bloc’s should not include those parties.

Look to the EU Parliament – the main bloc’s there manage without the extreme elements.

No, the political position you are taking is not a race, it’s a political stance (and hence has – rightly – no protection under UK law). I agree it makes you unfit for modern society, though.

No surprise you’re linking pretty standard hard right, white racial-supremacist, anti-Semitic hate material either.

Last evening, I was with a group of Europeans who live here. I was teaching them English. One of the other teachers comes from Ukraine. She was telling us all about her family who are having to hide in their house because of the growing violence and robbery on the streets. Using any kind of transport is simply asking for violent robbery with AK47s.
To assume that Eastern Europe is just a rather distant England is, honestly, rather silly.
There is a growing number of Hispanics now. Lovely people, but why are they coming?

The EU has an awful lot to think about has it not. And why was Baroness Ashton of Upholland demonstrating in Kiev, making the situation white hot? And has the Eurozone really nothing to do with the Hispanic economies?
