Video: Russia Today anchor Abby Martin slams Russian invasion of Ukraine

A presenter on Russia Today, the Kremlin's propaganda arm, has denounced the Russian invasion of Ukraine live on air.

A presenter on Russia Today, the Kremlin’s propaganda arm, has denounced the Russian invasion of Ukraine live on air.

Breaking the Set host Abby Martin ended her show on the American version of the channel by saying that she “cannot stress enough” how strongly she feels about Russia’s invasion of Crimea.

“Just because I work here, for RT, doesn’t mean I don’t have editorial independence and I can’t stress enough how strongly I am against any military intervention in sovereign nations’ affairs,” she said, adding that “What Russia did is wrong”.

“I will not sit here and apologise for or defend military action,” she said.

She also criticised the media’s coverage of the Russian invasion of Crimea as “disappointing” and “rife with misinformation”.

“All we can do now is hope for a peaceful outcome for a terrible situation and prevent another full-blown Cold War between multiple superpowers. Until then, I’m telling the truth as I see it,” she added.

The video is rather surprising, for as Left Foot Forward has previously noted, RT is engaged in a wholesale misinformation campaign aimed at bolstering the authority of Russian President Vladimir Putin and discrediting enemies of the Russian state at home and abroad.

BBC Newsnight tonight asked one Russian guest one question, while Rifkind blathered away about “costs to Russia” without ever telling us what the cost would be, other than less cooperation.
Not one Western reporter has gone to Eastern Ukraine to cover the pro Russian anti Kiev protests, while 6 to 10 Ukrainian protestors were shown outside the Russian Embassy in Kiev last night. If the Russians have invaded Ukraine, where are the TV crews covering their advance? There are no crews as there is no invasion of Eastern Ukraine, never was.
Crimea has 25 thousand Russian personnel there under treaty, while Crimea has been the home of the Russian Black Sea Fleet since the 18th Century, only being given to Ukraine as a gift by the Soviet Union in 1954.
The US threatened world war over Cuba, 90 miles off the Southern tip of Florida, why does anyone think Russia wouldn’t do the same thing over Georgia, Ukraine or Belorussia?

I found this site last night as I trawled through anti Russian nonsense about Abbey Martin.
Tonight, there is very little, actually zero coverage, of the Estonian Foreign Ministers conversation with the EU Foreign Minister, Catherine Ashton, in which he tells her that he blames the pro EU organisers of the protesters for shooting both police and protesters in Kiev. He tells her that someone in the interim government paid these snipers. The Estonian government tonight officially confirmed that the leaked phone call is factual, while Ashton’s office declined to comment on leaked calls.
Another false flag operation being carried out by the same people who told us that Saddam had WMD’s.
France 24 are the only Western media to report it, but RT are playing it all day.
