Nine-time Olympic gold winning legend Carl Lewis expressed the embarrassment and exasperation of his nation with a stinging slapdown of Mitt Romney today for his gaffetastic comments about London’s readiness for the Games.

Carl-Lewis-Mitt-Romney
Lewis, who won gold at four successive Games, from LA 84 to Atlanta 96, told the Indy:

“Every Olympics is ready, I don’t care whatever he said.

“I swear, sometimes I think some Americans shouldn’t leave the country. Are you kidding me, stay home if you don’t know what to say.”

Earlier this week, Romeny questioned Britain’s readiness for the Olympics, asking if we are willing to “celebrate” the great event, while yesterday it emerged he had described the UK as ‘just a small island that doesn’t make things people want to buy’, and last night he was reduced to flogging tickets for his pre-Games drinks party for just $1,000 – down from an initial price of $25,000.

Give him time he’s not in power yet.

I’m talking about actual policy, which the Republicans have an actual say in right now.

    On reflection…

Cost of the opening ceremony: £30m; cost of the Olympic stadium: £537m; total Games cost: £11bn… Watching benefits get slashed to pay for the Games? PRICELESS.
