“Reasons to be cheerful” on Copenhagen

Ed Miliband revealed last night that the changing position of Japan, India, and China meant "there are reasons to be cheerful" over the Copenhagen climate change talks in December. The remarks are more positive than previous assessments by the Climate Secretary.

Lack of clarity clouds Afghanistan deployment

The Prime Minister's decision to dispatch 500 more troops to Afghanistan is a tacit admission that the number of troops currently deployed is insufficient for a mission of counter insurgency through civilian population protection, and excessive for a mission that targets al Qaida instead of the Taleban.
