Green members vote for councils to support BDS in show of solidarity with Palestine
Members have voted through a conference motion to cut ties with companies linked to Israel
Green Party members have voted for councils to support the “boycott, divest and sanctions movement” and not invest in “complicit organisations”.
The motion means Green Party councillors will now introduce motions to their respective councils encouraging them to support BDS.
Members voted through the motion this afternoon.
The text outlining the motion included clauses on carrying out “regular risk assessments and due diligence on council contracts” to check whether they have links to “complicit organisations”.
It also included a line on “divesting” from and ceasing “contracts, investments and relationships with complicit organisations”.
In addition, the motion calls for councils to “use ethical banks, and move away from complicit banks such as Barclays”.
