Labour campaign events over-subscribed in London, Manchester and Brighton

Activists in these cities are being urged to travel 30 miles or more.

Labour have more campaigners than they need in the marginal seats around London, Manchester and Bristol – according to Momentum.

Momentum’s MyCampaignMap website is encouraging Labour activists in these cities to travel to marginals further afield.

London-based activists are being encouraged to go 30 miles north to Stevenage – rather than campaign in any seats in London or the surrounding towns of Thurrock, Crawley or Watford.

There have been reports of up to 700 people canvassing in London constituencies like Putney and Chingford and Woodford Green.

On polling day, London-based actvists are being encouraged by Momentm to take up free seats to campaign in Birmingham – where surrounding seats like West Bromwich East and Dudley North don’t have enough support.

Activists based in Manchester are being urged to avoid the suburbs of Bury South and Altrincham and Sale West in favour of Crewe and Nantwich – which is 30 miles away.

Momentum is telling Labour campaigners based in Brighton that the nearby marginals of Crawley and East Worthing and Shoreham “have enough support for now”. The group does not suggest an alternative – but Hastings and Rye, 40 miles east, is probably the next closest marginal seat.

In other cities though, campaigning events in nearby marginals are not over-subscribed. These cities include Nottingham, Leeds, Liverpool, Sheffield, Cardiff, Norwich, Newcastle and Sunderland.

As well as advertising campaign events, Momentum is trying to raise £300,000 to reach every young voter in a marginal on social media and remind them to vote.
