A higher proportion of the British public believe that the UK should pursue closer ties with Europe rather than the US, after Tony Blair urged the Labour government to prioritise its relationship with the U.S. despite Trump’s antics.

Blair recently wrote a highly critical essay in which he attacked the current direction of the Labour government. He claimed that the Labour government had ‘no coherent plan’ for the country and had also introduced policies that held back businesses.

In stark contrast to the position taken by Starmer, Blair also called on the government to maintain its close ties with Donald Trump’s America even when it’s “difficult or unpopular”.

That view drew criticism from leadership hopefuls Andy Burnham and Wes Streeting.

Now a YouGov poll has found that Britons think the UK should pursue closer ties with Europe than the U.S.

The poll found that 46% of respondents preferred closer ties to Europe, compared to 11% who said the U.S. should be prioritised.

Clearly the British public don’t agree with Blair.
