An unemployed man who had not eaten for three days because his benefits had been stopped set fire to a job centre in order to get a hot meal in police custody, according to the Manchester Evening News.
Bee O’Brien, 49, set fire to the customer telephones at a jobcentre in Moss side after a row about his benefits.
O’Brien told police he would “commit a crime and get arrested. I need some food”.
According to the Evening News:
‘O’Brien, of Camelford Close, Hulme, admitted criminal damage, attempted arson, and using threatening words and behaviour when he appeared before Manchester magistrates.
Gina Clayton, defending, said: “His benefits had been stopped for some reason and he hadn’t eaten for three days. He was simply desperate for some food. He went to the job centre to get his payments and lost his temper.
“He was aware that if he was arrested he would have been given food at the police station.”’
O’Brien was given a 12 month community order and ordered to do 40 hours unpaid work.
Last month a disabled man took his own life after worrying about how he would manage once his benefits were stopped.

My son has just had his money stopped for 3 months because he didn’t turn up for an appointment with A3 an appointment he didn’t even know about because he never got the letter they sent him’ but they say that’s not their fault so how does he live when he has got bills to pay and food to buy? They don’t care.same with my sister she’s had no money since july and just keeps getting passed from pillar to post trying to sort it out.I think if she was an imigrant she would be treated better and that’s not what great britain is suppose to be about british born people should come first. I say get rid of the government and let us run it.

There have been protests in London but they are so heavily policed and contained it probably feels futile. Being a full time carer for my disabled husband unable to afford to travel to anywhere to protest.

It is sad that this happens, I was a near victim of having my money sanctioned the week i was due to sign off as I had a fulltime job lined up, all i needed was some form from the jobcentre to finalize my employment at which I could be given a start date, to get this form I had to ask my adviser for, just to warn you this said adviser is a very strict, over the top strict in my opinion, that strict that she was refusing to give me this peace of paper, just because I didn’t and hadn’t made an effort that week (as I new i had this job in the bag once she gave me the form) to make 3 successive job searches and that she was going to sanction me for 6 weeks for failing to provide the job searches, even tho she new I was guaranteed the job, she was making out that I should also continue to do job searches and have more than one job like her, i nearly lost my rag, but managed to keep my cool, because it seemed she wanted me to fail, thanks to the adviser next to her, i have the job and didn’t get sanctioned, never will i want to see her patronizing political minded B***h.

Obviously the answer to these problems is to sell off all the things! That way we can all starve or freeze to death knowing that our lords and masters will be warm this winter.
