Voters deliver damning verdict on Rishi Sunak’s first year as Prime Minister

The polling by YouGov also shows that Sunak’s personal ratings have also taken a big hit.

Voters have delivered a damning verdict on what they make of Rishi Sunak’s first year as Prime Minister, with a new poll showing that half the public believe he has been ‘poor’ or ‘terrible’, with his personal reputation also taking a hit.

The poll, carried out by YouGov, found that barely one in 10 voters rate Sunak as “great” or “good”. The dire ratings come days after the Tories lost two by-elections in what were considered safe Conservative Party seats in Mid Bedfordshire and Tamworth.

Labour’s win in Tamworth on a swing of 23.9 percentage points, was the second biggest since 1945 and the biggest swing in this Parliament.

In Mid Beds, following the resignation of former Culture Secretary Nadine Dorries, Labour overturned a majority of 24,664 –  the largest overturned by Labour at a by-election since 1945.

The polling by YouGov also shows that Sunak’s personal ratings have also taken a big hit.

After entering Downing Street as Prime Minister on October 25th last year, just 1% of people believe Sunak has been a “great” PM, with 10% saying he was been “good”. Just 34% now say he is competent (down 16 points on a year ago), while 30% say he is decisive (down 23 points from last year).
