“Total chancer” – Tory former colleagues criticise Boris Johnson

Several Conservative politicians who have worked with Boris Johnson have accused him of being “cynical and self indulgent” and not reading his briefing papers.

Steve Norris was twice the Conservative candidate to be Mayor of London but was defeated by Ken Livingstone in 2000 and 2004. He said he would leave the Tory Party if Johnson was leader.

Brian Coleman was the chair of Boris Johnson’s fire and emergency planning authority. He replied:

Sadly you are absolutely right. Spent half my meetings as his Fire Chairman telling him what I had told him at the last meeting . Sir Simon Milton and Sir Eddie Lister kept the show on the road

Roger Evans was a long-time Tory London Assembly member and was appointed as one of Boris Johnson’s Deputy Mayors in 2015. He added:

Boris Johnson is currently joint favourite to be the next prime minister. The other joint favourite is Jeremy Corbyn.
