Scotland is a pathetic excuse for a country. In 2012 50% of Scottish GDP was the state and 88% of Scots were net tax takers or at best non-contributors. Syphilis is at a 15-year high in Scotland (https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-scotland-48436122), and alcohol related deaths are 54% higher than in England and Wales (https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-scotland-40347942). Scotland has the highest drug death rate in the EU which is 3x higher than England.

We’re all fizzing with smack, booze and the clap, and we need English money.

That’s three quarters of a million living and working in the Union. The productive ones.

Of course the SNP don’t want them “vooting” in any referendum for obvious reasons, because they are frit wee fearties. They just want the schemies and the loons, like Julia.

When’s the rape trial again?

A sad rant again Tom!
It is the same people who once supported Labour who now vote SNP.
They were socialists in 2010 when 50 Labour MPs were elected in Scotland.
Office bearers and activists for the SNP once campaigned for Labour.

The people didn’t change their politics they simply recognised that the Westminster systems fails Scotland.

@ Francis McGonigal

Support for Independence was around 28 percent in 2010/11. It was 45 percent in 2014 and then Brexit arrived. Boris arrived. Labour collapsed. England has chosen a Right Wing Government. To suggest support for Independence is fixed at 45 percent is laughable.

The article proves one thing hasn’t changed. The majority of people in the rest of the Uk think it is going to go away if they keep ignoring it. This Saturday a March for Independence will take place in Glasgow. I expect over 100k will attend but the media will not cover it.
The Federal System has been promised many times as it was in 2014. What happened after the NO vote – Labour opposed every advancement in devolution proposed,

The Union is over, it is just a question of WHEN.

Labour have form on this now, and it is entirely their own fault.

To turn things around they need to stop thinking that they know better, and respect the electorate. Stop calling voters thick and racist. Stop pretending the EU is the source of all that is good in the UK. Lose the hard-core Socialist element. Apologise for the shenanigans around blocking Brexit (not apologise for opposing it — there’s nothing wrong with being Remain — but the idiotic methods taken for blocking it and the exaggerated scare stories).

No chance, in other words.

Another referendum would probably give a similar result. Labour should advocate greater autonomy for Scotland (‘DEVOMAX’) and support a referendum if this is included as a third option.
