As the Tory machine ramps up the spin – don’t let them get away with it

100 for Hope: Join Left Foot Forward's General Election appeal.

Boris Johnson

This Tory conference has shown what we’re up against. Today the right-wing press are hailing Johnson as some kind of saviour.

Meanwhile, the unelected PM continues to ride rough-shod over the public and democracy.

Make no mistake: he’d love to shut down Parliament again (Johnson just told Tory conference ‘It is were a school, Ofsted would shut it down’). And this conference, ministers have mooted plans to slash inheritance tax on the rich, end our freedom of movement, and cave in to lobbyists.

It’s easy to feel powerless. Don’t. We can stand up to Tory spin and game-rigging – and bring together the left.

As talk of an election heats up, we need 100 new supporters to help us get General Election-ready by the end of this month.

Can you join the campaign today for just £5 a month?

As a rare cross-party outlet staffed by trained journalists, LFF is a platform for the whole left. We report from the frontlines – as well as from Parliament.

And we’ll raise the issues in a General Election that the rest of the media won’t. In 2017 we received millions of hits during the election – successfully showing up UKIP and raising issues others wouldn’t.

The Tories’ allies and their media pals are well funded. Cabinet ministers give speeches to the likes of the secretly-funded Taxpayers’ Alliance and Institute of Economic Affairs, pumping out policy to turn this country into a deregulated nightmare. The right-wing press then publish and amplify these ideas, barely moving the punctuation.

We don’t have their kind of backing. That’s why I’m asking today if you’ll become a monthly supporter to ensure we’re General Election-ready.

Already this week we’ve shown up the Tories’ education lies, highlighted how this government filibustered a vital bill to protect asylum seekers, and revealed that the government has missed deadlines to tackle wage theft. It’s these stories and many more that show how important LFF is as a platform for progressive ideas.

Together, we can step this up a gear. We’re funded by our supporters, on a shoestring. That has a real benefit: any funding we get is pumped directly into our campaigning journalism.

Thanks for your support. Let’s hold this lot to account.

Why should I support the Labour Party? They are satisfied with the system of turns each in the commons. The stuff the Lords in the same way as the Tories. They support WMD. They sell out to big business at the end of their careers ( Blair, Darling, etc etc)
You may have Corbyn speaking like a socialist. However he is not a leader so the country will never elect him.
