My work suggests that almost all decisions about the allocation of capital are based on the profit potential of a business organization. There are very strong management systems in place for business to optimize for profit and there have been for very many decades. There is nothing like it for the optimization of the social impact of place, yet this is a big part of every individual’s quality of life. I would like to see the same sort of management firepower deployed to optimize place for its social and environmental impact as there is within the business and finance community related to accumulating wealth.
