Anti-Brexit campaigners call for day of coordinated local action

Activists are encouraged to campaign in their local areas on November 10

Anti-Brexit campaigners are gearing up for a national day of action in a bid to halt the UK’s departure from the EU.

The left-wing campaign group Another Europe Is Possible say they want to stop Brexit, defeat the government and transform Britain and Europe.

Data compiled by Hope not Hate and Best for Britain will be used to target the campaigning on November 10.

Another Europe is Possible is one of the more radically left-wing of the anti-Brexit campaign groups.

Michael Chessum from Another Europe Is Possible told LFF:

“Putting 700,000 people on the streets shows a strength of feeling that shocked even some the organisers. But that needs to turn into a movement at a local level that can win hearts and minds, swing public opinion and push MPs to do the right thing when the deal comes to Parliament.

“The Tories want to drive wages, standards and public services off a cliff and then blame immigrants for it, that is what Brexit is about. Theresa May needs to know that there is a movement in local communities that will resist, including with civil disobedience, that agenda.

“And Labour MPs need to understand that if they don’t stand up for both their constituents and the democratically decided policy of the party, there are thousands of party activists queuing up to select MPs who will.”

On October 20, there was a huge demonstration in London in favour of a ‘peoples’ vote’ – a referendum on the government’s Brexit deal.

Alice Dee wrote for LFF on why it was one of the proudest moments of her life, while LFF editor Josiah Mortimer published his thoughts on the march.
