What is needed instead is
1 . a Citizens Basic Income, paid unconditionally to every legally resident individual in UK (just as child benefit is universal, only taxed for a few) to provide a secure permanent small income
2. Rent regulation to minimise the need for housing benefit
3. National Living Wage enforced and an end to zero hours contracts
4. Childcare services that are affordable and accessible for all

I should know – a close friend is currently sleeping on my sofa because of the delays. What happens if people can’t rely on friends and family?

==========

Or the state. The state is bankrupt. 10 trillion pounds of pension debts.

What you need instead is that people invest and own their wealth, instead of you spending their wealth and then walking away when the consequences come home. [34% of taxes go on the state’s debts]

If people had their own wealth, they wouldn’t need the welfare state.

It would just be a small minority, rather than the majority who need a subsidy now.

You’ll discover the consequences, and its pretty clear.

Austerity, poverty, wealth inequality all have their roots in the decision to spend people’s money, redistribute it, and racking up 10 trillion pounds of pension debt with no assets, no capital to make good on the promises.
