Re Chester Draws.
‘A better life ‘ is not just about more material possessions but also the quality of our environment and social life. The ‘enlightened’ left recognises this.
To take a simple example: do more cars per person mean a better life?
More cars lead to congested roads and slow journeys for everyone, including those on buses, while cyclists and pedestrians have to suffer the pollution effects on their health, the constant noise and the danger of collisions.
Using electric buses instead, powered effectively by solar and wind energy, takes less road space and everyone gets to their destination more easily and quickly. Plus we have less emissions and more space for pleasant and safe cycling and walking.
Isnt that a better life?

Oh, you mean that wasn’t an actual deadline, just a way to scare people? Like you are doing now. David Wallace Wells is not taking a rational line, and even some of the strongest proponents of global warming have said as much. He’s a nut.

And please stop conflating environmental issues with global warming. Planting trees for biodiversity will do nothing to reduce emissions — trees grow very slowly, so absorb a trivial amount of CO2. Not that insulating homes is going to do much more.

The Left used to be for raising living standards and giving people a better life. Now it’s about lowering our expectations and making us learn to love going without. I preferred the old Left.
