Arron Banks bails on Clacton

The UKIP donor is not known for his follow-through

Once again, UKIP sugar daddy turned political wannabe Arron Banks has bottled it.

Having threatened for months to stand in Clacton, the self-proclaimed ‘bad boy of Brexit’ today withdrew his candidacy, issuing the following statement.

Banks has tried to portray the decision as a noble one, made in the interests of UKIP’s hard-working activists. But his attack on the outgoing MP Douglas Carswell as ‘the epitome of a nasty little career politician’ points to his real reasoning.

For Banks, politics is nothing more than an opportunity to settle petty personal grievances. Without Carswell to fight, and given the overwhelming likelihood of defeat, he has simply lost his nerve.
