We will be much better off in the longer run out of it.”

After all, capitalist Britain, in the two centuries prior to joining the EEC was such a haven of workers rights wasn’t it? There was no place in capitalist Britain for large capitalist enterprises was there, no role for workers to be exploited by capital, such as sending children down the mines and up chimneys’ no sign of trying to keep wages low, or to encourage immigration to provide the required workforce!

Once again we see some reactionary nationalist who is blind to the reality of capitalism in the nation state, and can only blame the problems that are caused by capitalism on to foreigners and “foreign” institutions writing on a left-wing website, whilst framing their reactionary xenophobic views, in pseudo-pro-working class rhetoric. Its the kind of national-socialism that was promoted by the Nazis.

This outcome could be secured by joining EFTA and the EEA after leaving the EU. The customs union though is a complete red herring. There is no benefit from or possibility of staying in it upon leaving the EU. It appalls me that an MEP should not understand the nature of the EU customs union and the difference between it and customs cooperation. Get your act together and do some detailed research please.

The EU is organised and run in the interests of multinational corporations based in the EU. The EU has systematically attacked workers rights across the EU in recent years. Just look at the way workers rights have been reduced in Spain, Portugal, Italy, Greece and now France.

The EU has encoraged the flow of cheap workers from eastern Europe and outside the EU for the benefit of corporate profits and to keep the wages of workers in France, Germany and the UK low. It has put in place a series of directives/laws that stop individual governments interverning in their economies and force governments to sell off public sector enterprises like our Royal Mail. The EU’s Single Market is a neoliberal construct to keep wages low and profits high.

The EU is nothing more than a neoliberal capitalist club. We will be much better off in the longer run out of it.

I have voted for other parties – LibDem, Ukip – but I have never considered Labour because round here, you just don’t/
These words, however, make me determined to vote Labour should an election happen in the near future”
“For our part, Labour MEPs will continue to push for the best possible deal, and work to achieve it in the European parliament, across a range of areas, but most crucially the UK’s continued membership of the EU Single Market and Customs Union – outside of which we will face tariffs and trade barriers, resulting in fewer jobs and a hit to our economy.”
Bloody well said! You are the only party with this promise.
