This decision was taken years ago. They were looking for a good day to bury bad news. They reckoned without Wrecksit, which guarantees bad news every day – long before Article 50.

If there was such a business case for what is supposed to be a hub airport, why was it not financed by those who stand to benefit. Yet again, billions will be looted from public finances – aka the hard-pressed taxpayer – on escalating costs now that the approval conundrum is out of the way, in `times of austerity’.

There seems little point in adding traffic to already heavily congested roads, with their idiot lanes, so that the alleged extra exports will struggle even more to get to freight terminals. The M4 will become a car park. Housing will be even more of a nigtmare. Sooner or later, the Only Place That Matters will sink into the Thames/sewers under its own weight.

So the Frequent flyers levy will hit UK based business people travelling . These people travel often daily. In teh 1980s – just on normal business, I went UK, Germany, USA, germany , UK in a week. That is not exceptional.

Typical Greens .. Write plausible sounding rubbish which in reality would screw up the people you rely on to provide jobs and tax revenues,

Er, the top two are New York and Dublin. Sure, Frankfurt is do-able by train, but there and back in a day is hardly “genuinely workable”.

We need ongoing economic growth. There should be a long-term plan to expand all three major London airports.
