This has a lot to do with Green Energy and Climate Change Fears which close down coal and oil fired power stations and gives a lot of subsidies to other forms of production which provide only intermittent electricity.
The aluminium production has gone completely. Now even steel is totally unproductive. We are sitting on huge coal fields still. But – hey – there are Greenpeace and the Climate Change Lobby stopping coal and also fracking, which has brought such prosperity to the USA.
Please put the blame where it belongs. Mr Miliband brought in the Green Deal, Mr Cameron enthusiastically backed him up. Now we are seeing the results.
