If the left wants to really improve the wealth and remove poverty from those countries where it is rife then they need to push for an economic model that was used by every wealthy nation from Britain to China to South Korea to build its economy. That policy…. Protectionism.
Every industrialised country has used protectionist import and capital investment controls to allow the development of its industrial base and to protect is food production. Only be doing this can these countries actually develop the right kinds of business and more importantly a strong middle class which they need to allow them to compete at a global level. The forced globalisation and the reliance on external corporations simply denies developing nations the opportunity to establish the employment that they need to raise people out of poverty.
Arguing for a change in the economic model is a non-starter. We live in an economic model that is consumption based capitalism and that is what drives the growth of the state and raises people out of poverty. Whilst this model holds sway then the left needs to accept that eradicating poverty can only be achieved by using that economic construct.
We cannot change the current model since all our measures of poverty are based on the ability to consume and more importantly even the poorest people are desparate to get on to the consumption ladder so we should not block them off from achieving that.

Why are there no stories on here about the gangs of young immigrant men roaming the streets in Germany, or the rapes and sexual assaults taking place in German towns, or the German police’s police of keeping quiet about these attacks, or the German parents being told not to let daughters out in revealing clothing, why could it be? doesn’t fit with your open door agenda that everyone is nice and fluffy and friendly and that now Germans are regretting the tidal wave of immigrants that you want to swamp this country too

It may seem unrealistic to many to think that the change requires many people to reduce their lifestyle and give up many of the comforts that cause the contamination and planetary degradation. There is no climate change debate, climate change will become the enemy and people will stop using fossil fuel, stop having babies, and release lands back to mother earth to relocate their homes in cities. It will be strict and many will not fully understand what is going on.
