The only way the Calais bottleneck will be relieved is if the UK processes these migrants in the UK. Although that would solve the problem immediately, there would be a political cost. And even if this would be “the right thing”, it would be considered by the current UK govt as a cross too big to bear.

So the stalemate will continue – and probably only worsen as more arrive (until France just gets fed up & puts them all on a ferry).
Many more have chosen to remain in France, but they’re not in the UK headlines. (And for the moment, there are 2000 of them in Calais, not 40 million.)

Huh? The French and (particularly) Germans are having way more asylum seekers than the UK, however you analyse the figures. Not that you’d know that reading the scummy UK press.

But that’s Utopian guff and every sane person knows it. I suspect even O’Neill knows it, but he must espouse it in order to show everyone what a true liberal he is.

”Much of Britain was built by Irish sweat, is nursed with Nigerian care, and has hospitality provided with a Romanian smile: migrants make this nation tick. We shouldn’t send soldiers to keep out the Calais hopefuls; we should send a welcoming committee. Let them in to do what they long to do: be safe, work, live”

Just remember though that those people also think that we can have a population of a hundred million no problem, and that we just need to build over all the green bits to build some mega-cities.

I see too many problems myself, but at least they’re upfront about it.

France & any other EU countries these migrants come through on their way to Calais just don’t want to see these people otherwise they would have to take responsibility for the genuine asylum seekers. Much easier to usher them through to UK and leave us to pick up the tab.
