Next you’re an agency worker.

And you can’t do the job you were contracted to do, and are trying to basically expense giving it to someone who can! What utter cheek – they should can your contract instead, but you want a blank cheque by removing “complexity”. (That’s “accountability”)

Keep looking to cut wages and “costs” by slashing basic spending to the bone, so you can make a higher profit this quarter and smash the economy in the longer term, as we’re seeing now.

Some privatization is needed. You can’t employ someone full-time or have the necessary equipment for something you only need occasionally. Do you keep a department of programmers on the payroll so they can write software you might need in the future? Only a third of companies have in-house training teams. Do you stop contracting that out. The civil service has a commitment to provide 5 days of training a year. Should the government maintain a cleaning crew for every building used by the government and maintain a maintenance staff to keep it in repair or contract it out? It saves on managerial cost for one thing.

It might have the opposite effect as if the public alternative is cheaper, it will show up the fallacy of private is cheaper and be even harder for a government to claim otherwise.
