I totally agree that the Commons is where we need to make the most drastic changes. My point is that, like with the Scottish Referendum, reform of the Lords could open up issues that aren’t currently being debated by mainstream politics, including really assessing what’s going on in the Commons. As it stands none of the Big 3 are really going to the massive changes we need, but a smaller reform in the Lords could begin to move the debate towards there

If you tried to force me into it, I’d be out the country pronto.

It’d be life-wrecking for the vast majority of people “selected”, and would be a disaster.

To achieve a democratically acceptable 2nd Chamber filled with members from all walks of UK life, with a large range of backgrounds, experiences and skills, who we can be sure will be both independant of influence from the Commons and Government and who will have to live with the direct consequences of new legislation, unlike Lords and MPs who often make themselves excempt from new legislation, we should select members in the same manner as we select Juries, that is by random selection from the electoral rolls. It is a system that has proved itself in our legal system despite numerous elitist attacks and would prove itself again in a 2nd Chamber.
