Well I’m on a low wage and I’m better off. Then I don’t get any benefits either. £14k income, kids left home, wife gets paid £8k.

Working tax credits are silly. The min wage should be high enough so that you don’t need them. You should also be able to afford your rent on min wage. So whats happening here is that Morrisons don’t pay enough to get by, so the govt. tops up the income of Sittingbourne Dad. But the govt. does not benefit from the labour of Sittingbourne Dad, Morrisons does. In other words, working tax credits are propping up the profitability of Morrisons.

This sucks. There is nothing in either left wing or right wing ideology that says that state should indirectly support corporate profits. Companies should pay more for labour, and min wage workers without children should be able to survive on their basic income. Government should both raise the min wage and also takes step to reduce rent, rather than spend money on working tax credit and housing benefit.

If you are on min wage and you have children, the child benefit should be the only additional income that you need in order to get by.

Man the system is just so dumb, no left winger or right winger would ever design it to be like this.

In reply to Tim_A. spain, where alot of the people on out of work benefits live. they rent out their uk council houses and live like kings in andalucia with rent far cheaper than that
