An article published under the title ‘Labour saved 2m children from poverty’ has been removed at the request of Mike Brewer, professor of economics at the Institute for Social and Economic Research at the University of Essex.

Mike Brewer’s findings on child poverty can be found in Chapter 5 of the Child Poverty Action Group Report  Ending Child Poverty by 2020: An interim report

As you’re here, we have something to ask you. What we do here to deliver real news is more important than ever. But there’s a problem: we need readers like you to chip in to help us survive. We deliver progressive, independent media, that challenges the right’s hateful rhetoric. Together we can find the stories that get lost.

We’re not bankrolled by billionaire donors, but rely on readers chipping in whatever they can afford to protect our independence. What we do isn’t free, and we run on a shoestring. Can you help by chipping in as little as £1 a week to help us survive? Whatever you can donate, we’re so grateful - and we will ensure your money goes as far as possible to deliver hard-hitting news.

Unfortunately, this blog is different in small but important ways from the one I submitted to LFF. It’s nonsense to say “if the current rate of child poverty reduction was continued, it would have been eliminated by 2027”, and no research paper of mine has ever said that. And it’s stretching the facts to say “Labour’s policies can be calculated as having saved 1.8 million children from poverty.” I urge you to read the original for my true opinions. Mike Brewer
