First, Cameron’s one-sided approach to the BA strikes. As I have said before, I don’t like strikes, and obviously the best thing would be for both sides to get round the table, but it takes 2 sides to make a dispute, and from what I gather the union have a point; if BA is expecting the crew to take pay cuts and-or face redundancy, then I think Mr Walsh should lead by example. Also, we must not forget the possibly illegal removal of perks from the cabin crew. And, if there’s any substance to that leaked report the papers carried (I can’t find a link unfortunately, but I think it was something to do with an anti-union policy), then I would suggest that Mr Walsh is part of the problem, not the solution.

Second, I hear there was a letter in the Sunday Telegraph yesterday calling on the government to recognize the rights of Christians. It was covered in the Guardian:
http://www.guardian.co.uk/world/2010/mar/28/Christian-bishops-discrimination

I don’t know what these bishops are talking about, frankly. 1 of the cases they sight is a case where a nurse was said to have been discriminated against by the local Primary Care Trusts for wearing a cross. Now, I don’t know what the rules relating to jewelry are, but if she challenges and is found to have been specifically discriminated against I would say that shows the law working for her. The bishops also sight cases where registrars have refused to preside over civil partnerships on religious grounds, however, I would argue that as they are public servants that is the job they are employed to do, irrespective of religion or politics.
